Ethos Award 2002
Scottish schools are encouraged to enter the Ethos Award for 2002.
Judges will be looking for

  • a focus on whole school ethos, not just individual classrooms or departments
  • evidence of systematic evaluation of school ethos
  • evidence of significant action taken as a result of the evaluation
  • demonstration of a continuing commitment to reviewing and developing school ethos using evidence as the basis for planning and sustaining action

The most recent winners provided a wide ranging and detailed picture of their school ethos, how all involved in the life of the school were consulted and how school ethos was a fundamental element in long term school initiatives. They backed this up with examples of materials such as information leaflets for pupils and parents, copies of school policies or summaries of questionnaire results. If you are interested in entering for the 2002 Award, please send your entry by 28 February to the contact address mentioned on the first page of this newsletter.

New Ethos Network Project
Funding from the Scottish Executive has been won for a new development project, the Positive Ethos Database. This will be a joint project with the Anti-Bullying Network and will seek to build on the collections of good practice information already held by both Networks. It will be a fully searchable information resource and will be offered via the Network websites by 2003/2004. The database will contain information on school initiatives and list significant resources.
