What
needs to be done to make inclusion a reality in Scottish
schools, rather than a worthy aim?
Participants
at the Ethos Network June Roadshow in East Renfrewshire
said there is a need for the political will to match political
rhetoric, and for the Scottish Executive to resource local
authorities adequately to achieve real inclusion.
Inclusion
is admirable. However, how will we ensure it is fully funded
and resourced equally across authorities?
Other suggestions included:
more
teacher training, including in-service training
more
education for parents, and willingness to listen to parents
better
training for support staff
remove
barriers to inclusion contained in the secondary curriculum
more
flexible timetables
schools
should be more creative with resources.
